Hotels Near Paris Landmarks

Paris is home to a huge collection of landmarks - from iconic museums, to shopping districts, to historic monuments like the Place de la Bastille and Arc de Triomphe. In certain neighborhoods, it's almost a given that any hotel is within walking distance of one landmark or another.

To begin your search for a hotel in a noteworthy spot, consider the offerings around these clusters of monuments.

The Eiffel Tower and the Hotel des Invalides

Located on the Left Bank of the Seine in the 7th Arrondisement, the Eiffel Tower and the Hotel des Invalides are both Parisian icons and must-sees for any visitor to the city. The neighborhoods surrounding these landmarks, which are about two-thirds of a mile apart, are marked by residences and offices - but a trendy charm awaits savvy travelers.

Many hotels offer views of the Eiffel Tower, but to get geographically close to it, try the chic, three-star Eiffel Seine right on the edge of the Left Bank, or the cozy Hotel de Londres Eiffel with rooms starting at only 165 Euros. Closer to the Hotel des Invalides, which houses Napoleon's tomb among other military monuments and museums, visitors will find laid back accommodations like the Hotel du Palais Bourbon, a charming 27-room hotel on Rue de Bourgogne, and Hotel Le Tourville, a tasteful family-style hotel just to the southwest of the Hotel des Invalides.

Montmartre and the Moulin Rouge

The notorious Moulin Rouge calls the northerly 18th Arrondisement home. A bit removed from the geographic center of Paris, the Moulin Rouge and surrounding Montmartre neighborhood are still big draws, and hotels are ubiquitous as a result. Much of this area is overrun with souvenir shops and overly cheesy tourism, but there are still some surviving remnants of the neighborhood's artistic past. Hotel Particulier, for example, is an 18th century mansion hidden down a secret alleyway between two streets, playing on the neighborhood's mysterious allure and featuring uniquely quirky suites each designed by an artist.

For travelers with a shopping bug, staying up in the 18th means you will also be close to Paris's most famous flea market, the Marches aux Puces de Clignancourt.

The Louvre, Place de Concorde, and Champs Elysees

On the Right Bank, specifically in the 1st and 8th Arrondisements, visitors will find some of Paris's most treasured landmarks - and some of its glitziest, most luxurious hotels. The Right Bank is known for being a bit more high strung than the Left Bank, and with good reason - staying here means you are steps away from the Louvre, the dynamic Champs Elysees, and monuments like the Arc de Triomphe and the obelisk in the Place de la Concorde.

The sheer number of hotels near these landmarks, especially in the 1st Arrondisement near the Louvre and the Jardin des Tuileres, can be overwhelming. But it means there is plenty of choice when it comes to price range, amenities, and style. From celebrity havens like the historic and internationally famous Hotel Meurice or Hotel de Crillon (an 18th century stone palace right on the Place de la Concorde), to midlevel luxury like the Westin Paris or the Galileo Hotel on the Champs Elysees, to basic but comfortable accommodations like the Hotel Astrid (steps away from the Arc de Triomphe).

Notre Dame and the Centre Pompidou

The 4th Arrondisement includes the Ile de la Cite and Ile St-Louis, both bustling islands in the middle of the Seine. Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle tower over Ile de la Cite, while Ile St-Louis offers luxurious residential neighborhoods and streets lined with antique shops. The Right Bank of the 4th is also home to the Centre Pompidou, a fascinating building that houses the impressive national modern art museum.

Discounted, no-frills lodging can be found at the Hotel du Commerce, just south of Notre Dame on the Left Bank.  Across the river is an array of more upscale hotels, such as the Hotel Britannique on Avenue Victoria, known for its elegance and romantic atmosphere.  Visitors will also enjoy the Hotel de Lutece, one of several historic hotels located right on Ile St-Louis.
