Summer Events in Paris

Visiting Paris in the summer is a wonderful thing. With warm weather, and flowers in bloom it is a great time to see the city. There are also many summer events to check out. From music festivals, to celebrations about who you are, there is always something going on in the city of lights during the warm weather months. Paris can be very crowded in the summer, due to the fact that kids are out of school and many people travel. Be sure to buy tickets to events that are ticketed, because they are more likely to sell out during the summertime.

Fete de la Music

Fete de la Music is all about the music. This is a day in Paris, and other cities around the world, where music can be heard all over the city, for free. That's right, everything that goes on on Fete de la Music is free. The festive music day always takes place during the summer solstice, or June 21st. Fete de la Music began in 1982. The festival has an emphasis on making music more accessible to everyone, with out expensive ticket prices. If you are going to be in Paris during Fete de la Music, think of it as a great day to see the city on foot. Paris can become very crowded, and their may be street closures do to performances. So put on your walking shoes and listen up, because there will be music all around you.

Paris Jazz Festival

The Paris Jazz Festival takes place each June and spans over three weekends. The festival takes place in the stunningly beautiful Parc Floral de Paris in the 12th arrondissement. To get to Parc Foral de Paris you can take the metro to Chateau de Vincennes or the bus number 112. Each performance at the Paris Jazz Festival is free, but there is an admission fee into the park of five euro. You can also buy a pass that is good for the entire length of the festival. Concerts take place all day long on the weekends, so many people go for the day, bring a picnic basket, and just relax, listening to the sounds of world class jazz musicians. While jazz music is the most common, the festival does feature other kinds of music from soul to circus. Be sure to stop by the Delta stage to see the biggest names.

Rock en Seine

Rock en Seine is a rock and roll music festival that was started in 2003. Since it's inception, this festival has gained great momentum. Rock en Seine has hosted some of the world's most popular rock bands such as Radiohead, Blink 182, Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, Rage Against the Machine, and many more. The festival has become extremely popular very quickly. Within five years the festival went from two days to three days. Because the bands that play are so big, the festival is very likely to sell out. Rock en Seine, which usually takes place in August offers three day passes for people who want to see it all. It is also possible to camp for this festival, but you are welcome to leave and come back each day, as the shows start in the mid afternoon. Rock en Seine takes place about 15 kilometers outside of the city centre in a neighborhood called Saint Cloud. The stages are set up in Domaine National de Saint-Cloud, a gorgeous park that has free admission the rest of the year. While the park is outside of the city, it is still east to get to by bus or train.

Gay Pride

Every June, around the world, people celebrate who they are and not hiding it. There are Gay Pride in cities everywhere, and Paris is no exception. This generally liberal city embraces the day with a large parade known as Marche des Fiertés LGBT. Since the 1990s, there have been marches around Paris. The parade route has changed throughout the years, but it usually ends near Marais, which is a historically gay friendly neighborhood. Pride can be political at times, but it is mostly a day about being who you are and acceptance. It is also a spectacular parade that most people will enjoy.
